You can stream your Zoom meeting or webinar to YouTube to present to a larger audience.

Please note: this is for informational purposes only. While we can offer limited assistance with this process KU does not support YouTube or Google-based accounts. Use at your own discretion and proceed with caution.

Why use Zoom streamed to YouTube?

  • Broadcast a secure Zoom meeting to a larger audience outside of KU.
  • Streamed live or recorded for asynchronous viewing

Some things to consider:

Please note: Your YouTube account needs to be eligible for live stream before you can start your first live stream. This process may take up to 24 hours. If you are having trouble enabling your YouTube live stream, please see YouTube's live stream support.

To stream your Zoom meeting or webinar on YouTube, first start the meeting or webinar in Zoom.

Click "More" in the meeting controls and choose "Live on YouTube."

When prompted, login to your Google account.

Update the YouTube name for your broadcast (if desired). By default, YouTube will use the name of you Zoom meeting or webinar. Then choose the appropriate privacy setting.

  • Public - can be seen by anyone on YouTube; posted publicly to your channel and show up in search results and related video lists.
  • Unlisted - can only be seen and shared by anyone with the link; videos do not appear in the channel or search results.
  • Private - can only be seen you and the people you choose (via email); users must have a Google account.

Click the Go Live! button. You will now see a progress bar, letting you know that your session is being prepared for streaming. Once the stream is available, you will be re-directed to the live stream on YouTube.

Please note: Once a live stream is stopped, it cannot be restarted. Restarting a live stream will result in a new YouTube link.

You can share your live stream link for the YouTube page:

The link to the live stream can also be found from the Zoom meeting or webinar:

Wait for the notification from the Zoom client that your Webinar is Live on YouTube, then begin your Webinar.

Streaming stops when you end the webinar or meeting, or click More then Stop Live Stream in the meeting controls.
