This article covers the Question Library. The Question Library is central location for all questions in D2L. Questions created within, or imported into, the Question Library can be imported into a Quiz, Survey, or Self-Assessment.
Why the Question Library
We suggest creating all questions in the Question Library and then importing the questions into the specific quiz, survey, or self-assessment. We recommend creating all questions in the Question Library because:
- Questions are then accessible to Quizzes, Surveys, and Self-Assessments.
- It’s possible to share questions across multiple quizzes (i.e. chapter quiz, unit test, midterm, and final).
- Building questions in the Question Library is the only way to create randomized quizzes.
- Updating a question once in the Question Library allows you to update the question everywhere it appears in your course.
Creating Questions in the Question Library
Access the Question Library by navigating to Quizzes and then clicking the “Question Library” tab at the top of the page.
Without organization, it is very easy for the Question Library to become unmanageable. For that reason, we recommend organizing your questions by first creating sections. To create a new section, click “New” and choose “Section.”
Enter a name for the section. It may be helpful to indicate the quiz name that these questions will be included in to help identify it when you create the quiz. You can adjust the display settings if needed. If you want to hide this information from students, be sure to check the corresponding box. Click “Save.”
If wish to create a randomized section, check the "Shuffle questions in this section box.
Back on the Question Library screen, enter the section by clicking on the section name.
Begin creating your questions by clicking “New” and choosing the type of question you want to create. For more information on creating questions, see the Creating Quiz Questions article.
After all questions have been added to the section, click “Done Editing Questions” in the upper right to return the main Quizzes page.
You can now setup a new quiz and import the questions from the Question Library. For more information, see the Import Quiz Questions article.
Copying Questions from an Existing Quiz to the Question Library
In the Question Library, enter or create a new section that will contain the imported questions.
Once inside the section, click “Import" and choose "Browse Existing Questions."
In the pop-out window, select the "Source." This would be the quiz you want to copy questions from.
Select the questions (or select all) the questions you want to copy to the Question Library and then click "Add."
The questions will be imported. Repeat this process to import questions from other quizzes. When you are finished importing questions, click “Done Editing Questions” in the top right corner to return to the main Quizzes page.
Importing Questions from a File to the Question Library
In the Question Library, enter or create a new section that will contain the imported questions.
Once inside the section, click “Import” and choose "Upload a File."
Drag and drop your file (CSV or compatible course package) or click "Browse Files" to open the file explorer.
You can now setup a new quiz and import the questions from the Question Library. For more information, see the Import Quiz Questions article.
