By default links added to a D2L Content module will open inside the D2L environment. Depending on the link you are adding, this can cause display issues. Also, some browsers and devices prevent users from opening the link completely. Please note: Chromebook users will not be able to view a video within the D2L window.

We recommend setting external links to open in a new window or tab.

To set new links to open in a new window or tab:

In a Content module, click "Upload / Create" and select "Create a Link" from the menu. For more information on creating a content module, see the Create a Module article.

Enter a title or name for the link. Then copy and paste the URL into the "URL" field. Check the box to "Openas External Resource" and then click "Create."

To update existing links to open in a new window or tab:

Enter the content module that contains the link. Click the arrow next to the link name and choose "Edit Link."

Check the box to "Open as External Resource" and then click "Update."
