The “Insert Stuff” tool allows you to embed media content and web links from a variety of sources. The “Insert Stuff” tool can be used wherever the HTML Editor is found. There are several types of insertions for "Insert Stuff."



My Computer

This allows you to upload a file (PDF, PowerPoint, image, Word document, etc.) from your computer and link it within your text. In the Insert Stuff menu, choose “My Computer” from the list. On the next screen, click “Browse” to locate the file on your computer. Once the file has been selected, click “Upload.”



On the next screen, enter the link text and click “Insert.” Link text is the text that will display as a blue hyperlink. When users click on this link, the file that you upload will display or download.


Course Offering Files

This options allows you to insert a link to media that you already uploaded to D2L at an earlier time. In the Insert Stuff menu, choose “Course Offering Files” from the list and then choose your file. Click “Next.”



On the next screen, enter the link text and click “Insert.” Link text is the text that will display as a blue hyperlink for the user to click. If it's an image, you may also want to add "alternate text" for accessibility. Click "Insert."



Video Note

Video Note allows you to record your webcam and audio and insert the recording directly into a D2L content page. Click "New Recording" to record the video.



Video Note Search

Video Note Search allows you to search for and interest Video Notes that you previously recorded. Enter search terms (based on the name you set during creation) or leave blank and click "Search" to see all available recordings.



YouTube

The YouTube option allows you to search for YouTube videos within the D2L learning environment. In the Insert Stuff menu, choose “YouTube” from the list. On the next screen, type a keyword(s) in the search box and click “Search.” Select the video that you wish to add and then click “Next.”

A video preview will load. Click “Insert.”




Flickr

Flickr allows you to add photos directly to your content page. In the Insert Stuff menu, choose “Flickr” from the list..On the next screen, type a keyword(s) in the search box and click “Search.” Select the picture that you wish to add and then click “Next.”


A preview will appear. Enter an alternate text for the image. Alternate text is a text description of the image. Alt text is required for screen readers. Click “Insert.”



Insert Link

Insert link is another way to enter a web URL in your content. In the Insert Stuff menu, choose “Insert Link” from the list. On the next screen, type/copy and caste the URL into the field. Click “Next.”


Enter a link text and click “Insert.” Link text is the text that will appear as a link for users to click.




Enter Embed Code

An embed code allows you to link a video, image, or table from another website on your content page. When you ‘embed’ an item, you are creating a link to an item that lives somewhere. When that item is updated, it will be updated on your content page automatically.

In the Insert Stuff menu, choose “Enter Embed Code” from the list. On the next screen, copy and paste the entire embed code from the website into this box. Click “Next.”



A preview will display. Click “Insert.”


Films on Demand

The Films on Demand integration allows you to add videos from the Rohrbach Library's Films on Demand subscription without leaving D2L. Search for and embed a video.
