Mediasite is Kutztown University's video hosting provider and is integrated into D2L to provide additional features. This article will review the process of creating and grading video assignments with D2L and Mediasite.

Creating Video Assignments

Video Assignments using MediaSite are simple to set up, and do not use any special features in D2L:

  • Navigate to Assessments>Assignments in the course shell.
  • Create a new assignment with Text submission as the Submission type (under Submission & Completion).
  • In the Instructions for the assignment, direct students to use the Insert Stuff tool to attach their submission.

The Assignment Creation wizard with a Video Assignment configured.

  • If so desired, use the Existing Activities dropdown in Content to add a link to the assignment folder in a module or submodule.

Grading Video Assignments

Mediasite recommends using the Completion Summary view for the best grading experience. To view and grade Mediasite submissions:

  • Navigate to Assessments>Assignments in the course shell.
  • Click the arrow next to the video assignments and select View submissions.

The Assignments list with Video Assignment selected.

  • If so desired, select the Submissions tab to view only users who have submitted responses.
  • If properly submitted, the student's video will be visible via a player on the left. Use the feedback panel on the right to enter grades.
