Kutztown University provides several ways to connect devices to the internet.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Golden Bears

The Golden Bears wireless network provides a secure wireless connection for KU faculty, staff, and students personal devices across campus.

The ResNet Wi-Fi open network is available only in residential buildings and should be used only for smart TVs, game consoles, or other devices unable to connect to Golden Bears.

Steps to Configure Golden Bears

  1. Connect to ResNet WiFi (residence halls) or BearNet (all other buildings) and sign in with your KU username and password.
  2. Navigate (or allow your device to auto load) to https://securewifi.kutztown.edu in your device’s web browser and follow the on-screen instructions to install a security certificate for Golden Bears (see below for device-specific instructions).
  3. Once the security certificate profile is successfully installed, you will receive a confirmation email from info@securew2.com. Your device should automatically prefer Golden Bears in the future.
    • Optionally, if you find that your device does not prefer Golden Bears once successfully registered with the service, please "Forget" other campus Wi-Fi networks (BearNet / ResNet WiFi) in your device's Wi-Fi settings. This will force your device to use Golden Bears Wi-Fi.
    • Most devices should automatically switch to Golden Bears once the above steps have been completed. Some devices (iPhones) do not automatically switch. In this case, please manually switch to Golden Bears in Settings.

Notes for Apple Device Users

  • If you use BearNet and/or ResNet WiFi wireless networks on campus with your Apple device AND you have the "Private Wi-Fi Address" setting in your Wi-Fi Settings set to "Rotating", you will find that you have to re-register your device on those Wi-Fi networks every time your device "rotates" its Wi-Fi address.
  • Apple's current rotation schedule is two weeks. To avoid this potential hassle, use Golden Bears Wi-Fi as it uses a security certificate and not your device's Wi-Fi address. Using Golden Bears is the recommended approach.
  • Optionally, you can change your Private Wi-Fi Address setting to "off" or "fixed" in your device.   You can then sign in with BearNet / ResNet Wi-Fi and stay connected without having to re-login every 2 weeks.

ResNet Wi-Fi

ResNet Wi-Fi provides internet access for dorm-bound devices. This includes game consoles, smart TVs, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

To connect an applicable device to ResNet Wi-Fi, look up its MAC Address (see detailed instructions here) then navigate to the Self-Registration Portal on a device with a web browser and log in with your KU credentials. Enter the MAC address when prompted to register your device.

BearNet Secure

BearNet Secure provides secure internet access for devices managed by Kutztown University. This includes staff and faculty laptops, tablets, and most internet-capable devices with a KU asset tag.

BearNet Secure access is preconfigured on KU devices. Contact the IT Help Center if your device is unable to connect to BearNet Secure.
