The Golden Bears wireless network provides a fully-encrypted wireless connection for KU faculty, staff, and students. Golden Bears is available in all residential and non-residential buildings on campus.
This article contains instructions for configuring Golden Bears for the first time on an iOS device, such as an iPhone or iPad.
Steps to Configure Golden Bears
- If you have previously connected to ResNet WiFi (residence halls) or BearNet (all other buildings) with your device, first remove the profile by navigating to Settings>General>VPN & Device Management, then tapping on the installed profile and selecting Remove.
- Connect your wireless device to ResNet WiFi (residence halls) or BearNet (all other buildings) in Settings.
- Open Safari (must use Safari for this process) and go to securewifi.kutztown.edu. Enter your KU username and password and click Join Now. (Note: Be sure to enter your KU username and NOT your entire KU email address)

- A security profile is downloaded to your device. When complete, you'll see the message "Profile Downloaded."
- Open the Settings app and tap Profile Downloaded.

- Tap Install in the upper-right corner and follow the onscreen instructions.
- When your device has finished generating a security key, enrolling the certificate and installing the profile, click Done.

- Your iOS device should switch automatically to Golden Bears. If it doesn't, open the Settings app and manually change your WiFi network to Golden Bears. It may help to forget BearNet and ResNet WiFi to prevent your device from automatically joining the wrong network when in range.
Notes for Apple Device Users
- If you use BearNet and/or ResNet WiFi wireless networks on campus with your Apple device AND you have the "Private Wi-Fi Address" setting in your Wi-Fi Settings set to "Rotating", you will find that you have to re-register your device on those Wi-Fi networks every time your device "rotates" its Wi-Fi address.
- Apple's current rotation schedule is two weeks. To avoid this potential hassle, use Golden Bears Wi-Fi as it uses a security certificate and not your device's Wi-Fi address. Using Golden Bears is the recommended approach.
- Optionally, you can change your Private Wi-Fi Address setting to "off" or "fixed" in your device. You can then sign in with BearNet / ResNet Wi-Fi and stay connected without having to re-login every 2 weeks.
