Overview
Admin By Request is a service that allows the ability to elevate privileges for a limited period of time on assigned Kutztown University devices. This can allow changes to be made to Windows, such as installing or updating software.
Elevating through Admin By Request
- In the Start Menu, locate Administrator Access by searching for it or scrolling through the alphabetical list of apps.
- When this window appears, your email and office phone number should already be filled in. If not, enter this information. You will also be prompted for a reason for activating administrator access.
- Click OK. A new window will open with the University’s Single Sign On. Click on your account and log in.
- A Code of Conduct pop-up will appear, along with some instructions and warnings for using your computer as an administrator. Click OK.
- A pop-up will appear in the corner of your screen with a timer indicating the time before your administrative access expires. To relinquish your elevated permissions early, click Finish.
Elevating on Demand
- The Administrator Access prompt will appear when performing an action that requires administrative privileges, such as when installing software.
- Note that Administrator access will not appear when clicking on an executable from a web browser, like a downloaded installer. Instead, you will have to find the executable in your file browser and double-click it (if it has the administrative access badge) or right-click and select Run as Administrator.
- When prompted, enter your contact information and a reason for activating Administrator access.
- Click OK. A new window will open with the University’s Single Sign On. Click on your account and log in.
- A Code of Conduct pop-up will appear. Once you click OK, you will be able to proceed with administrative access for the current app or process only.
