This article documents the process of installing and configuring FortiClient for VPN on Windows. This process only needs to be done the first time you use VPN on a machine.
FortiClient VPN is pre-installed on KU staff devices. If using a KU device, skip to Configuring FortiClient VPN.
Note: ARM-based computing devices are not compatible with FortiClient. This includes some Microsoft Surface models and newer laptops using Snapdragon processors.
Installing FortiClient VPN
- Visit FortiNet’s website to download the FortiClient VPN application.
- Click the Download button below the Windows logo to start the download. Be sure you are downloading the FortiClient VPN (there are other similarly named applications on this site).
- Run the installer that downloads. When prompted, click on License Agreement to view the license, then check Yes, I have read and accept the and click Next to install the VPN.
- On the next screen, use the default installation location. Click Next.
- Click Install to start the installation.
- Once the installation is complete, click Finish. Restart your computer if prompted to do so.
Configuring FortiClient VPN
The following steps explain how to configure the FortiClient VPN for use with KU's network. These steps will only have to be completed once.
- Open the FortiClient VPN application on your computer.
- Check the box to accept the technical support agreement, then click I Accept.
- Click Configure VPN.
- Configure a new VPN connection using the following settings:

- The FortiClient VPN is now configured to access the Kutztown University network and you’re ready to sign in. Enter your KU login information and click Connect.
- Faculty & Staff – Login with your KU user ID (not email) and password. You’ll also need to respond to Microsoft Authenticator to confirm your login.
