Accessibility Reports
Panorama generates an accessibility report for all content in D2L and all documents uploaded to DocHub.
An overall score is presented at the top of the Alternative Formats Menu. Clicking this score will open the detailed report.
The panel on the right-hand side will count the number of minor, major, and severe issues, and offer a brief description of each.
Inline Remediation
Most issues can be remediated in Panorama and applied directly to the file in D2L or DocHub. These items will have a Fix Issue buton.
Severe Issues
Certain issues impede a document’s accessibility entirely. The most common example of this is a scanned document that has not been created with OCR (optical character recognition).
Clicking Fix Issue presents the user with options for addressing the matter. In this case, Panorama will offer to use OCR to make the scanned PDF searchable and accessible to screen readers.
Major Issues
Clicking Fix Issue brings up a description of the issue and offers solutions.
In some cases, it will prompt users to enter text. In others, it will present users with options from a menu.
Other issues, like text contrast, can be resolved via the color picker.
Minor Issues
Minor issues may only require verification. In these cases, Panorama will explain the issue and ask the user to confirm that the document is accessible.
After all inline remediation issues have been addressed, the Accessibility Report will show a Proceed to Review button at the bottom of the screen. This review will list all issues that have been addressed before applying the fixes.
Clicking Apply Fixes will update and rescore the document. Issues fixed inline are automatically applied to the document. A copy of the original is always maintained, but students and users will be presented with the accessible version.
External Remediation
Some issues cannot be addressed inline by Panorama. In these cases, the tool will provide step-by-step instructions on how to resolve the issue.
The How to Fix tab displays instructions for common applications. These steps should be taken to modify the original file before reuploading it to D2L or DocHub.
The What This Means tab provides further details about the issue and why it matters.
Once fixed, the document can be reuploaded and inserted in place of the original from the Accessibility Report.
