Panorama features several advanced remediation utilities that are available to Kutztown University faculty.

AutoPilot
AutoPilot is an AI-powered tool that attempts to automatically resolve most accessibility issues in a document.
In D2L, AutoPilot can be run on a single document by opening the accessibility report and clicking Launch. Not all documents will recommend running AutoPilot.
In the Panorama portal, AutoPilot can be run on an entire course. A course scan will consume one credit per document scanned and should only be run after consulting with a Digital Accessibility Liaison or the Digital Accessibility Coordinator.
When to Use AutoPilot
AutoPilot usage is limited by credits. Remediating one document costs one credit (roughly equivalent to $1.17), whether it is scanned individually or via a course scan. As such, it is best to run AutoPilot on a per-document basis.
Panorama uses color-coded icons to indicate accessibility status. AutoPilot will be most useful on documents with low (yellow icon) or very low (red icon) accessibility scores.
Faculty should consider using AutoPilot when setting up a new course. This should be done before copying content to a new semester or alternate section to prevent creating redundant work. Note that remediated files will be copied when performing a course copy. This means that faculty do not need to run AutoPilot again in a copied course.
When Not to Use AutoPilot
Because AutoPilot is a limited resource, it should only be used when appropriate. It is recommended to refrain from using AutoPilot in the following examples:
- When working with previously remediated files. AutoPilot will not find or resolve additional issues on a “second pass.”
- When working with a partially-remediated course, it is recommended to only use AutoPilot on a per-document basis.
- When working on documents that already have high accessibility scores (green icon), AutoPilot is not recommended.
Structural Remediation
Structural Remediation is a powerful tool that attempts to make PDFs more accessible by reconstructing them with proper reading order and tags. Like AutoPilot, this resource is limited by credits. Remediating one document with Structural Remediation costs one credit.
When to Use Structural Remediation
Structural Remediation in D2L should be used to resolve severe issues only after the remediation tools in Microsoft Office (if the document is a converted Word document or PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat (if the document is scanned or an original, editable document is not available.
Panorama will recommend Structural Remediation when it detects severe accessibility issues with a PDF.
When Not to Use Structural Remediation
Structural Remediation is not recommended in the following examples:
- Structural Remediation is intended only for PDF documents that cannot otherwise be made accessible. Structural Remediation cannot be used on documents that are not PDFs.
- Structural Remediation should only be run once per file.
