KU does not recommend a specific computer brand or model. If you don't have a personal preference, you may want to contact the academic department of your intended major to see if they make any program-specific recommendations for hardware and/or software.
Most students bring either an Apple MacBook or a Windows laptop.
Google Chromebooks can be seen as an economical alternative to traditional laptops. Please be aware Chromebooks have extremely limited offline capability.
A few students choose to use Linux, but please be aware that on-campus support for Linux systems is limited.
You are permitted to bring a desktop computer to use in your room, but remember space is limited. Most students opt for a portable computer.
